RF MICRONEEDLING FACE & NECK: First 72 Hours Care Plan
By Refinery21 Studio | November 2, 2026
I’m right here in Marietta, in the Whitlock Avenue corridor near the Marietta Square, so if you have a question after your appointment, you’re not on your own.
The single most important rule for the first 72 hours after RF microneedling is simple: keep your skin calm and clean, and don’t “test” it with makeup, sweaty workouts, or strong active products. One of my clients put it perfectly when she said my education and explanations are “such an important part of my self care regimen, ” and aftercare is a big reason results last.
First 24 to 48 hours after micro needle RF: do less, protect more
RF microneedling, also called microneedling with radiofrequency, creates controlled micro-channels and delivers heat energy below the surface. That’s how it helps with texture, fine lines, scarring, and tightening. It also means your skin needs a short, predictable “quiet window” right after.
If you remember nothing else: Skip makeup, sweating, and active ingredients for at least 48 to 72 hours. Keep skin clean and hydrated, and avoid direct sun.
What’s normal right away
Redness, warmth, a “sunburn” feel, and mild swelling are common. The face usually settles faster than the neck. You might also feel a little tight or dry as the skin starts its repair phase.
My do’s for the first 2 days
- Wash your hands before touching your face and neck.
- Cleanse gently with a mild cleanser and cool to lukewarm water. Pat dry. No scrubbing.
- Use only the serums or ointments I recommend for your skin that day. If I didn’t specifically suggest it, pause it.
- Sleep on a clean pillowcase and try to keep your head slightly elevated if you swell.
My don’ts for the first 2 days
- No makeup.
- No gym sessions or heavy sweating. Heat and sweat can irritate and slow things down.
- No pools, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, or long hot showers.
- No direct sun. In Marietta, even cloudy days can surprise you.
Days 3 to 7: what to keep avoiding so your microneedling facial pays off
By day three, a lot of people feel “back to normal, ” then get tempted to jump right back into exfoliating, retinol, and long days outside. This is where I see results protected or compromised. I’m big on education for a reason, because the right plan keeps your skin steady and comfortable while it rebuilds.
Sun and events
Avoid tanning and direct sun for 2+ weeks. If you’ve got October outdoor events around the Marietta Square, I like scheduling RF microneedling 2 to 3 weeks ahead so you’re not worrying about sun and redness.
Picking and exfoliating
If you peel or get tiny flaking, don’t pick. Don’t use scrubs, cleansing brushes, or exfoliating pads. Let your skin shed on its own.
Makeup and workouts in the first week
If redness has settled and your skin feels calm, I usually have people ease back into makeup after the 48 to 72 hour mark. Keep it light and clean, and wash brushes and sponges first. For workouts, start with low sweat sessions, then scale up. If your face or neck flushes hard, feels hot, or gets stingy, that’s your sign to back off for another day or two.
Neck-specific tips I don’t want you to miss
- Avoid tight collars, scarf friction, and anything that rubs. That includes purse and crossbody straps.
- Hold off on heavy necklaces for a few days if they irritate the area.
- If you swell, keep your head elevated and skip stomach-sleeping for a bit.
Products and habits that protect RF microneedling results
Your job after RF microneedling is to keep the barrier comfortable and avoid anything that stings. My clients who get the best long-term improvements usually keep it simple and consistent in that first week.
Stick to “boring” basics for a bit
- Gentle cleanser, no fragrance-heavy foaming washes.
- Plain moisturizer that doesn’t burn when you apply it.
- Broad-spectrum SPF once your skin can tolerate it, usually after the first day or two. I’ll tell you when it’s right for you.
Pause these for 7 to 14 days: retinol, AHA/BHA exfoliants, and vitamin C. If you’re not sure what counts, send me a photo of the ingredient list and I’ll help you sort it out.
And please don’t “power through” irritation. If something feels spicy or makes you noticeably redder, stop and swap back to gentle basics.
When to text or call me, plus the signs I don’t want you to ignore
I take aftercare seriously because it’s part of the service. People come to Refinery21 Studio for results and for the way we educate without making you feel judged. One review that stuck with me said our team is “excellent” with “education and care, ” and that’s exactly the standard I hold myself to.
“Gracie does a great job of explaining the purpose of the treatments and how they work.”

Quick answers: makeup, gym, sun, peeling, and product pauses
How soon can I wear makeup after RF MICRONEEDLING FACE & NECK?
I generally recommend waiting at least 48 to 72 hours. If you’re still very red, tender, or flaky, hold off a little longer. When you do return to makeup, keep it light and make sure brushes and sponges are freshly cleaned.
Can I exercise after RF MICRONEEDLING FACE & NECK, and when is it safe to return to the gym?
Skip heavy sweating for at least 48 to 72 hours. Heat and sweat can sting and prolong redness. Ease back in with low sweat workouts first, then build up as your skin tolerates it.
When can I go out in the sun or wear SPF after RF microneedling?
Avoid direct sun right away, even if it’s cloudy. I usually want you avoiding tanning and intentional sun exposure for 2+ weeks. You can typically start a gentle SPF once your skin calms down, often after the first day or two, but if SPF stings, pause and ask me what to use.
What skincare ingredients or products should I avoid after RF microneedling face and neck?
For 7 to 14 days, I typically have you pause retinol, AHA/BHA exfoliants, and vitamin C. Skip scrubs, cleansing brushes, and anything that causes stinging. Stick with gentle cleanser, bland moisturizer, and the products I recommend specifically for your recovery.
Is peeling or scabbing normal after RF MICRONEEDLING FACE & NECK and how long does it last?
Light flaking or tiny rough patches can happen as your skin turns over. It’s usually short-lived in the first week. Don’t pick, don’t exfoliate it off, and keep skin hydrated. If you see thick scabbing, pus, or worsening redness, reach out right away.
